To stimulate debate and to get an idea of the views of forum participants, the moderator asks Dorothy to take a vote on the proposal as stated in her introductory statement.

The poll is designed as a simple way of measuring feelings in the forum. It has only three tickboxes "for the family ticket "against it and "not sure".

The results of the poll prompt more debate about the issue as those for and against the motion try to convince the still undecided participants to join them. Some of them make use of the special search functions of DEMOS to

  • search for other users who share an interest in transport issues (who they try to convince)

  • search for other users who share the same opinion about the family ticket (with whom they discuss how to proceed).
