Technology of the 1st Prototype

For the test of the 1st prototype (DEMOS.1), the capacity of the server systems used were planned with respect to a quantity of some hundred persons. A multi-tier server system was designed on the base of free and open source products to fulfil the requirements and provide a system easy to adopt to other working fields. On the presentation layer, the system is based on browser technologies. By this, it is guaranteed that the DEMOS prototype can be used from nearly everywhere without any restriction. The DEMOS business logic is placed on the server side within the webserver and servlet engine. This allows the use of thin clients and reduces the connections to the database, thus increasing scalability. The architecture of the server side is described below and outlined in the graphic for overview.
