Online Surveys
Both types of survey have quickly been adapted for use in the new media as a fast and cost
effective way of conducting research without the restrictions in time and scope of
traditional approaches. Online quantitative surveys can reach much broader targets as well
as more specific ones than personal interviews. And the effort of data collection is reduced
to a minimum, since all online surveys are self completing. In qualitative research, the
Internet is now regularly used for online focus groups and for moderated e-mail groups. That
said, the online survey technique is still in its development phase.
