The challenge for the DEMOS project is to take the advantages of three social research methods and combine them into a new methodology for on-line democratic participation and interactive conflict resolution. (1) From Surveys it will take the idea of mass opinion polls on a large-scale basis, (2) from Delphi it will take the idea of a cyclical decision process exploiting expert knowledge, and (3) from Mediation it will take the idea of an open process of participative conflict resolution.
