Relevance for the DEMOS Project
Mediation methods are integrated in the DEMOS system to help organise and improve the quality
and rationality of the arguments and debate. In a DEMOS process, a vast number of yet unknown
participants should be able to take part simultaneously in an online-mediated debate, with all
of the participants having all access to the same information at any time. This kind of a
debate is characterised by huge fluctuation among participants and will be multipolar and
many-sided. The system will provide means to develop closed group structures, to clearly
visualise the state of the debate and to exchange confidential information securely in order
to establish the basis for successful online mediation. A special concern is to support the
mediator in handling the huge amount of information and messages.
