This process is moderated by a mediator whose work it is to carefully balance the power
between the actors involved in the process. He takes the role of an impartial third party,
primarily concerned with organising the procedure, clarifying questions regarding the contents
and establishing an atmosphere of confidence among the participants. Since the task of the
moderator is very demanding, he has to be chosen carefully with respect to personal
characteristics like impartiality and integrity, good communication, social and organisational
skills as well as experience of life, educational achievements and social reputation.
